I am Dan Presgrave (a.k.a. Pastor Dan) and I will not be greeting you today in the typical fashion. I say that because most people introduce themselves with a resume-type litany which includes their “pedigree” (ie. education), experience and accomplishments. That method of introduction is common-place – in fact, in many cases expected - and is designed to impress you and to define who they are. I could do that, if I so desired…(for instance…I come from a background in academia – thirty-nine years on the faculty at Washington University in St. Louis; two years on the faculty at University of Missouri-St. Louis and numerous entrepreneurial endeavors), but none of that information is important for this introduction. Therefore I have chosen not to “officially” include it. Why? Even though it shows commitment and achievement, it only describes part of me and does not address “who I am today” or “why I am doing what I do today. The current who and why is addressed in my story.
My introduction is also different from most in that I unabashedly include the bad and the ugly parts of my resume along with the good. I do that because who I am today is a direct result of who I was before I found a pathway to freedom. What I am about to share with you is not my plan. My plan took me to the depths of despair and hopelessness. This is a story of God’s redemptive power, mercy and amazing grace.
